The Department of Wood & Paper Science at NC State (WPS) participates in a number of interdis­ciplinary projects involving physics and materials science research as it relates to wood science, paper science and forest biomaterials. One of our largest on-going initiatives explores multiphase materials, including porous fibrous web structures, foams made from natural materials, natural super-absorbents, enzymatic manipulation of material structure, natural nano-scale fiber composites and novel applications of rheological phenomenon.
