The undergraduate programs offered by NC State’s Department of Wood & Paper Science (WPS) offer outstanding preparation for successful careers in the wood products, paper, pulp and many other industrial, manufacturing and process-based industries. Every aspect of our programs are designed to prepare students for actual industry situations and to provide them with the theoretical, practical, personal and professional skills they will need to make an immediate contribution to their fields.

We start this preparation by offering curricula that have been developed with input from industry and are constantly updated to reflect new developments and needs. We then emphasize internships, co-op programs and hands-on research in order to provide students with on-the-job experience. We also provide extensive advising services throughout the undergraduate years to ensure our undergraduates are pursuing the right area of interest for them and taking the courses they need to take in order to maximize their career potential. We encourage our students to remain flexible and to keep their options until they discover the niche that is right for them.

During their studies at NC State, our students have the opportunity to take advantage of many professional networking resources. WPS alumni, industry executives, faculty and fellow students, especially seniors, are all part of this network.
