WPS Home : For Future Grad Students : Student Organizations
The Department of Wood & Paper Science at NC State is part of a larger campus community that includes a number of student organizations designed to meet the academic and extracurricular needs of graduate students. Nearly all WPS graduate student belong to the Natural Resources Graduate Students (NRGS) organization, which is the College of Natural Resources’ chapter of the University Graduate Student Association. Its purpose is to promote professional interest and fellowship among CNR graduate students and to keep students abreast of pertinent campus issues. Other graduate student organizations include:
- The NC State University Graduate Student Association
- International Student Organizations
- The Association for the Concerns of African American Graduate Students
- The Graduate InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
In addition, WPS is home to several student professional organizations, including TAPPI/PIMA, which serves as NC State’s student chapter for the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) and the Paper Industry Management Association (PIMA). TAPPI/PIMA sponsors annual events and trips; provides a forum for student, industry, technical and professional presentations and fosters leadership skills in members. The Forest Products Society (FPS) is the NC State student chapter of an international society founded to provide an information network for the forest products industry. It also sponsors activities such as boatbuilding and participates in national service programs related to the industry.
