Pursue a Masters degree - or just take courses in wood products, paper science, forest biomaterials, etc. - without having to go to campus!

The Department of Wood & Paper Science at NC State delivers a unique distance-based educational program that allows industry professionals to pursue Masters degrees or individual courses in a variety of areas.  This program has served students from around the nation and world since 1999. More details are given in our student manual (PDF file).

The courses in our distance education program are designed and taught by regular NC State faculty.  Lectures are captured, digitized, and delivered to you online and by DVD, and are enhanced by various interactive, Internet-based learning applications. This means you do not have to leave your job, or even visit the campus, if you earn a Masters of Wood & Paper Science degree or take individual courses through the program. Your course resources may be accessed at any time of day or night, making it possible to fit studying into a wide variety of busy lifestyles and time zones.

The online courses are the same as the on-campus courses in terms of content, quality, and academic rigor, and there is a high level of communication between student and instructors conducted via the web, e-mail, and phone conversations.

Our Distance Masters of Wood & Paper Science is designed for individuals who are professionally employed and have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in the pulp and paper, wood products or allied industries, such as chemical or equipment suppliers for wood and paper products. We also welcome students who just want to take a specific course from our distance education curriculum or pursue a program of study by distance.
