Graduate Degree Programs
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) at NC State is dedicated to providing an exciting and challenging intellectual environment for students pursuing a graduate degree. The department offers a variety of master’s degrees and a Ph.D. degree. Click on the degree links provided below to learn more about each degree.
PRTM offers a doctoral degree designed to produce independent scholars capable of conducting independent research. Graduate students seeking this degree must have a master’s degree in recreation or a related area and show evidence of research experience and interest. Each Ph.D. applicant must identify and obtain the endorsement of a PRTM graduate faculty member prior to admission into the program.
The department offers master’s degrees in parks, recreation and tourism management, natural resources, and a dual master’s degree with public administration. With several of these degrees, you have the option of writing a thesis or a professional project.
- M.S. in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (thesis)
- M.S. in Natural Resources - Outdoor Recreation Technical Option (thesis or project options)
Graduate degree programs designed for the working professional:
- Master of Natural Resource Information - Spatial Information Systems Technical Option (project)
- Master of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (project). Pending approval this degree will be available online in the fall of 2010.
- Master of Geospatial Information Science and Technology (project)
- Dual Masters in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management and Public Administration ( project)
