 Perver Korca Baran
Visiting Research Associate Professor
Ph.D. 1989, Istanbul Technical University

Dr. Baran is a member of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Teaching and Research Program at the Center for Earth Observation. Her responsibilities include managing and implementing GIS research projects and teaching in the PRTM/GIS program. She also holds a part-time teaching position with the School of Design's Ph.D. program. Currently, her research interests focus on the applications of GIS in Urban and Regional Planning and Web based GIS.

Dr. Baran has background in architecture and urban planning. Her research has centered on tourism development and urban design issues. Her research topics include tourism planning, coastal tourism, and perception and assessment of environmental impacts of tourism as related to sustainable development. She has published in the Annals of Tourism Research and the Leisure Sciences. She has made numerous presentations at national and international conferences including: International Institute for Peace Through Tourism Global Conference, Sustainable Tourism in Islands and Small States International Conference, Mediterranean Coastal Environment International Conference, International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance World Congress, Architecture of Soft Tourism: International Seminar and Workshop, International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments Conference, Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture Conference, International Association for Housing Science World Congress, and Regional Science Association World Congress.
