PRTM Student Helps Cary NC Senior Play Wii Drums

The NC State Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management and the Cary Senior Center were honored at the American Society of Aging/National Council on Aging conference in Las Vegas in March 2009 with an Outstanding Research Award for the collaborative study undertaken to examine the role of a senior center in promoting physical activity for older adults. Dr. Larry Gustke

Dr. Larry Gustke, Tourism professor and researcher received the 2009 Winner Circle Award for Significant Contributions to the North Carolina Tourism Industry on March 2, 2009. The award was given by the North Carolina Department of Commerce at the 2009 Governor's Conference on Tourism & Hospitality and recognized more than 20 years of service to North Carolina's largest service industry. Water flows off a parking lot into a stormdrain Downpours often pollute North Carolina’s waterways when stormwater washes oil, gravel, pollen, and other debris off the pavement into nearby streams. One inch of rain on a one-acre parking lot can send 27,000 gallons of water gushing into storm drains. Dr. Perver Baran and Dr. Hugh Devine  have developed practices for controlling such runoff and are helping craft regulations to limit its impact in the future. As part of a larger research project, Drs. Devine and Baran used geographic information science techniques and technologies to measure changes in stormwater runoff between conventional and cluster developments in Brunswick County.  Read Keeping it Clean Downstream in RESULTS
