The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is an international nonprofit scientific and educational society dedicated to the improvement of water quality and supply. Its more than 57,000 members represent the full spectrum of the water community: treatment plant operators and managers, scientists, environmentalists, manufacturers, academicians, regulators and others interestws in water supply and public health.
The Student Fisheries Society is a sub-unit of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. It encourages the exchange of fisheries and aquatic science information among students, faculty and regional professionals and provides career guidance to students.
The National Association of University Fisheries and Wildlife Programs represents approximately 55 university programs and their 440 faculty members, scientists, and extension specialists and over 9,200 undergraduates and graduate students working to enhance the science and management of fisheries and wildlife resources. NC State is proud to be an active member of the Association.
The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) is a community of scientists, conservationists, consultants, federal, state and local wetland managers plus environmentalist citizens. SWS publishes the top journal in its field; sponsors annual Society meetings and local chapter activities; acts a a professional resource for members; advocates sound wetland science and policy in Washington, D.C.; and conducts a variety of other activities.
The National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) provides a forum for the exchange of information, ideas, career advice and experiences in natural resources; advocates interdisciplinary environmental education and research; promotes campus awareness of environmental issues; and sponsors lectures, seminars and field activities to spur discussion of issues that affect natural resources and people.
Sigma Xi is an international, multidisciplinary research society that honors scientific achievement, promotes an appreciation of the role research has played in human progress and supports scientific enterprise and original work across the spectrum of science and technology. Over the course of its 130-year history, more than 200 members have won the Nobel Prize and many more have earned election to the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering.
