Hope Valley Experimental Forest

FER Home : The Department : Hope Valley Experimental Forest

Hope Valley Experimental Forest is a 345 acre tract located on Chatham County near Lake Jordan. It was established in 1941 and it is now used exclusively for research purposes.

Since 1985, the forest's seed trees have been strategically cut and used to help provide roost and nest habitats for the endangered population of bald eagles at Jordan Lake. The conditions in this forest are ideal for allowing the eagles to swoop into trees and scan the lake for fish near the surface.
