Description
Provide direct care to sanctuary and rehabilitation animals in care at the wildlife center and complete an independent project that meets the requirements of the intern’s academic institution and benefits the center.

•Feeding/watering designated in measured amounts using diet instructions
•Cleaning enclosure which may include raking, weeding, sweeping platforms, and climbing ladders up to 8 foot areas
•Launder towels and bedding as needed
•Empty and wash/sanitize dishes daily
•Learn to identify animals as individuals
•Write detailed animal care notes as directed
•Assist medical staff with care for rehab animals.
•Indentify potential health issues in animals and ensure notes are provided to the medical staff
•Follow all directions provided
•Must be willing and able to work around skunks, raptors, bobcats, and coyotes.
•Assist with intakes of new rehab patients from the public and agency rescues.
•Develop independent project to be completed by the end of the internship term.

Internships are available year-round for a minimum commitment of at least 6 weeks up to 6 months.

The animals at the Wildlife Center need care 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Interns will be assigned to shifts that are 6-8 hours in length and occur between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm.

Qualifications
•Interns must be able to write animal care notes in English and will be required to enter such notes into the Daily Logs for each animal they assist with before the end of the volunteer’s shift.
•Must be able to meet the requirements outlined in the Essential Capabilities Document
•Should have access to a computer and ability to login into an online volunteer communication site to receive updates
•Ability to learn, follow directions, and make appropriate suggestions
•Have the ability to speak about the work of FFAWC and Wildlife Rehabilitation methods as outlined by the California Department of Fish and Game
•Must have a thorough understanding of HSUS’ mission and major campaigns
